Germans wonder why Americans think Germans all love David Hasselhoff

Germans universally love David Hasselhoff, that’s no secret. The mystery is why do they all act surprised when they find out Americans universally know of their love.

The Hoff has done things that everyone loves. He was the star of Knight Rider, which should be enough for one man, but his career didn’t end there. David also starred in Bay Watch, a tv show featuring people running in bikinis in slow motion. Hasselhoff even caused the Berlin Wall to fall. That’s a lot of greatness for one man.

What sets the Germans’ love for David Hasselhoff apart from the rest of the world’s admiration, is the fact that Germans actually bought Hasselhoff’s albums, whereas nobody else in the world even knows that he made music.

So, Germans, if you are listening, stop acting surprised that we know you love David Hasselhoff. And take down those David Hasselhoff posters from your wall.

Uh-Oh, the ribbing over The Hoff :-)

While Knight Rider might have been a success in Germany’s children-tv-programme, it still isn’t true that grown-up Germans bought The Hoff’s albums, and neither did they attend his concerts.

    Their children, however, did!

And that is what made up for The Hoff’s success in Germany: Children, getting on their parent’s nerves to buy Hasselhoff’s albums, AND, children, UNDER THE AGE OF 10, attending his concerts. At that age, their parents went with them, so double the ticket sales.
THAT, my friend, is the REAL reason for Hasselhoff’s success.

I’m looking at my wall…damn where did my Hoff posters go? Oh right i never had any.
    That guy made music?

  3. grautvornix Says:

US American elects actors to be your political representator.

    Germans buying records from actors.

Seeing this two facts, who is the greater fool ?

  4. Dent Says:

There’s no point in denying ist, the Hoff really sold some records here, he stayed at #1 for several weeks. But, and thats the point, it’s all water under the bridge, this was twenty years ago. Nothing against a good stereotype, but it shouldn’t be based on facts from the late 80s. I mean the cliché that all americans are fat, dumb, lazy and ignorant may be unfair, but at least its based on recent history.

    @grautvornix:

i think you are, because of your lame argument

    Three words: Schni. Schna. Schnappi.

  6. Tcherman Says:

Huh? And here I thought Ronald Reagan caused the Berlin Wall to fall.

  7. yourmom Says:

    Umm, Politicians are actors, hello!
At least Americans elect politicians that are entertaining.
And Americans can’t be held acountable for things that happened in the 80’s, it was a weird time for us, besides it’s only pop culture, Americans made him a t.v. star
Germans made him a rock star.
    haha

  8. Tilman Baumann Says:

We Germans have a small attention span too. We already forgot about Hasselhoff.
Hasselhoff could maybe seen as prototype of the artificial music stars have now. They don’t live long.
We where just not prepared to handle Mr. Hasselhoff with the same negligence we care for two weeks old pop stars.

    My theory. :)

  9. DDKain Says:

    Also jetzt mal ehrlich…

  10. Sir Richfield Says:

    Hmm, better late then never.

Dear DDKain, EVERY german is able to kind of “sing” the song “Looking for freedom”, especially after the fifth beer.
Strangely this also goes for people that are way too young to know that he sung at one time and not ran around in that show with Pamela Anderson or this strange series that runs on that oldskool TV station.

That’s why we love him. He’s so bad, it’s good again.

  12. Honk Says:

I find your reasoning flawed. How can you not know that he makes music but know Germans universally love David Hasselhoff if the only thing that sets us apart is that we bought his records. So you cannot know that we love him without knowing that he made music, so your whole argument crumbles down completely. Which is a relief for me, because this way I don’t have to listen to David’s albums that I’ve never bought.

    Phew, that was close!

  13. Foop Says:

crishan is right !! And that was 1989 !! As the US media have shown the Hoff bringing down the wall over and over, German TV did mention his concert briefly.

But as Germans are world champion in resurrecting expired celebreties and bad taste (Joe Cocker, Tina Turner, Robbie Williams, Dieter Bohlen etc.) somebody should tell the Hoff to make a comeback album. His former fans are now in their thirties and will buy it in a heartbeat.
