The only time I ever encountered a Hoff fan in Germany was when I saw my female cousin wearing a Hoff t-shirt. She was 9 and it was 1990. When I reminded her about this a year later, she denied it.
What always fascinated me was the Germans' love affair with Charles Bronson.

crishan is right !! And that was 1989 !! As the US media have shown the Hoff bringing down the wall over and over, German TV did mention his concert briefly.

But as Germans are world champion in resurrecting expired celebreties and bad taste (Joe Cocker, Tina Turner, Robbie Williams, Dieter Bohlen etc.) somebody should tell the Hoff to make a comeback album. His former fans are now in their thirties and will buy it in a heartbeat.

I find your reasoning flawed. How can you not know that he makes music but know Germans universally love David Hasselhoff if the only thing that sets us apart is that we bought his records. So you cannot know that we love him without knowing that he made music, so your whole argument crumbles down completely. Which is a relief for me, because this way I don't have to listen to David's albums that I've never bought.

Phew, that was close!

Hmm, better late then never.

Dear DDKain, EVERY german is able to kind of "sing" the song "Looking for freedom", especially after the fifth beer.
Strangely this also goes for people that are way too young to know that he sung at one time and not ran around in that show with Pamela Anderson or this strange series that runs on that oldskool TV station.

That's why we love him. He's so bad, it's good again.

Also jetzt mal ehrlich...

We Germans have a small attention span too. We already forgot about Hasselhoff.
Hasselhoff could maybe seen as prototype of the artificial music stars have now. They don't live long.
We where just not prepared to handle Mr. Hasselhoff with the same negligence we care for two weeks old pop stars.

My theory. :)

Umm, Politicians are actors, hello!
At least Americans elect politicians that are entertaining.
And Americans can't be held acountable for things that happened in the 80's, it was a weird time for us, besides it's only pop culture, Americans made him a t.v. star
Germans made him a rock star.
haha
