Every German must go eat ice cream any time the sun is shining. It may be February and 2°C outside, but if there is even a hint of sunshine, be prepared for long lines at the Eiscafé. Although the image of people in parkas eating frozen milk is inherently ridiculous, you will witness this in every town in Germany if the sun ever shines on a Sunday.
deutsche Übersetzung für Astrid ein/ausblenden
Guten Tag Astrid,
hier die Übersetzung:
Eiskalter Sonnenschein
John

Germans eat ice-cream when the sun is shining and it has 2°C outside -> Americans wear shorts.

True! And here in Wisconsin, people wear shorts AND eat ice cream when it has 2°C.

last winter i saw some american tourists wearing shorts and tshirts on the munich christkindlmarkt!!! (ok last winter wasn’t that cold but it wasn’t above 5°)

@ simi You should add the scale you are referring to. For example : 5° Celsius (C) are 41° Fahrenheit (F) , but 5°F are -15°C

You should visit Siberia, where you can find ice cream stands on every street junction. And they actually eat the ice even in winter, which tends to be much colder than 2°C.

In the German cities I’ve visited the Eiscafes are usually closed for the winter season and open back up in spring. Simple reason - nobody buys icecream in the winter.
Might be a regional thing
Over here in the US I see people wearing FlipFlops all year around, even if it’s around freezing…

I don’t need sunshine at all to enjoy icecream, I like it no matter what season or weather

That is still a marvel to me how someone can uses flip flops all day and have not raw toes… on the other hand if I want to have an ice cream (walnut preferred) all Italian ice coffees are closed …
