Hey John,
I really had a good laugh when reading your blog!
One comment on the beer caps like e.g "Flensburger" is using:
These are called "Buegelverschluss" and are actually the tradional caps for beer bottles, going back to the times when people used to go to the brewery with their own bottles to buy the beer there.
So I do not agree with the sentence "these bottles are very unpopular".
Btw.: Wikipedia states that the "Buegelverschluss" used to be a U.S. patent :-) http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/B%C3%BCgelverschluss
Regards

About the first answer: I (a german) open a wine bottle by pushing the cork in with my index finger. Beer bottles, the ones with tin caps, can be opened with literally anything using the "Klassiker" method. Screwdrivers, CD casings, every single part of a hammer and so on. Zahnarzt (with the teeth) is indesirable, but resting the cap on something and beating on it with your palm is empirically 100% effective, and I never hurt myself doing it. Best place to rest the cap is the case that the bottle comes in.

But I think the Bügelverschluss is by far more elegant than the tin cap approach.

the description of the DOPPELDECKER is not really correct. if you get the last beer, you put a cap on a empty bottle and open the last one... SRY I´m german and I´ll never let the last one closed ;)

Drive-through ATMs are great. But as a non-motorized German living in the States, two things always cracked me up about them:

1. Most of the time, they ONLY had drive-through, so as a pedestrian I would have to stand in between all the pick ups and wait my turn. Some strange looks I got there.

2. Drive-through ATMs WITH BRAILLE LETTERS ON THE KEYPADS???? You just gotta be kidding me. If blind people are using the drive-through ATMs, clearly their biggest problem will NOT be how to figure out where the 5 or 9 is.

Those Plöpps go back to the early Pickelhauben drinking days - another lost war, but the plöpp goes on!

BTW: German canned bear is made for export purposes.
No German who loves bear drinks that kinda stuff - unless he visits the States, o`course! ;o)

I'm German and since I was a child I can open my beer with nearly everything. It just works with a piece of Paper!

OK, MacGyver can build a Gun with a Bubblegum and his Knife... I can't...
