Germans don't put meat and cheese on the sandwiches at the same time? Says, who? I have always made my sandwiches with both! There are options to do one or the other, but in Baden Wurttemberg, we ALWAYS made them with both!

And the Americans still don't know how to make bread, although, it has (thankfully!!) gotten better in the last few years. You should not be able to take a foot of bread and squish it to a one inch square!

Oh, and whatever you put on your sandwich to make it juicier (mayo, butter, whatever) should go on the BREAD not the lettuce and tomato! I will never understand why it's done like that at Subway.

well well... maybe if americans had some eatable bread they wouldn't have to put so many things on the bread that they don't taste the bread anymore...
and maybe if americans wouldn't have cheese AND meat on every sandwitch they wouldn't... erm... come in all those shapes they come in ;)

I spent a few years with Americans and got so used to meat and cheese (it's great!) that I still do it here in Germany. My colleagues tell me I'm crazy each time I do it. And then they go put honey on hamburgers! Ugh.

And to Leaving Germany Soon...: I understand how you feel. I have an American friend who felt the same way and I felt like that when I came home to Germany after having spent 3 years abroad in countries with generally friendly and happy people in Latin America and also the U.S. My friend spent a few years in Germany and said the same things you did. After a while though it got better, she met friends and got to appreciate Germany. It takes a long time to have real friends here, but once you do, everything changes :-)
