Meta - Book is out + excuses, excuses
Nothing for UnGood is extremely pleased to announce that the book is now available in bookstores in and around Germany.
We also sincerely apologize for the website’s neglect in recent time, which was caused in part by the author getting a day job, buying his first house and marrying his first wife.
Also, he has finally saved enough money to travel back to Germany for the first time in over two years coming up this spring, for further research into transatlantic cultural peculiarities. Hopefully something funny will happen then.

Herzliche Glückwünsche zur Hochzeit!
October 15th, 2009 at 11:07 am
I’ll look out for the book!
If you come to Berlin, let me invite you to a beer or something
And congrats on your marriage and your “own four walls”!

“Marrying your first wife”? I’ve just married my last wife, ever. Well, in a perfect world, anyway.
October 15th, 2009 at 3:32 pm
Congratulations John!
However, now that you own a home, you will never go anywhere ever again! Instead you will always be aerating the lawn, fixing the toilet, or steaming old wallpaper off the wall. These endeavors will consume all of your available time and money. Viva la Moneypit! (Oh! There is a good word to translate into German! Geldbodenloch?)
No, really…Congratulations man! Welcome to the club!

Congrats, mang!! I’m supposed to head back over next spring for work, so a few wiggies might be in order! I’ll keep you posted
October 17th, 2009 at 7:32 am
bought it 5 days ago, read it in 3 hours, ended up here.
keep up the good work.
October 17th, 2009 at 6:18 pm
And you think that “marrying your first wife, buying your first house” and other stuff like that excuses everything? Puh…
October 18th, 2009 at 7:09 pm
Congratulations on the book, the job, the wife and everything, not necessarily in that order. I hope nothing but ungood will come of it. Or something like that.

Herzliche Glückwünsche zur Hochzeit!
und zum neuen Haus…..
und zum neuen Job…..
Viel Spaß in Deutschland. Wir waren erst dort. Nothing changed much!
October 19th, 2009 at 8:16 pm
Good luck and all the best for the future. I’ll be back to München for the first time in more than eight years over the upcoming holidays, visiting family and friends. And it’ll be my first winter in almost 20 years. What the heck was I thinking? LOL
I enjoy reading your blog and look forward to many more new entries.

Congrats John! Now keep updating the blog — you know they will want a 2nd part in the book stores!

-English translation below-
Hallo,
- Erklären Sie Ihrem Übersetzer, was “Ironie” bedeutet.
Alles Gute und Danke für Ihr wunderbares Blog und Buch.
Ihr Kermit

John,
you affront my fellow countrymen in your blog and in your book! We are comletely different!! We are friendly and tolerant, our language is easy to learn and it is us, who do everything right!!! And if somebody says “good morning” two times to the same person on the same day, we do not think he/she is a stupid american! Even if it is already 5 minutes *past* noon!!1!
Dear Readers of this blog: Do not believe him! His incriminations are far-fetched and not true at all.
And nobody is *forced* to eat his meat raw. Not physically, at least.
Regards
Kermit

Welcome back! Your time-out was hard on us, but the reasons are sympathetic! “Alles Gute”.
In the meantime, it seems another blogger has taken over your spot: http://www.tagesspiegel.de/berlin/Stadtleben-Wash-Echte;art125,2931149
He seems to concentrate purely on the hipsters though…

A: Herzlichen Glückwunsch!
Thank you for this book!

Congratulations on the triple threat: book, wife, house… especially the BOOK!
Anyone can get a wife and a house, but to publish a book… goodonya!

First of all, congratulations on everything! I just bought your book last Saturday and read it in one go! It’s a really good read and I really enjoyed it. Though I’m surprised you didn’t find anything else to comment on the Schwabenland other than “sweep week”, like Swabian people being really stingy (I should know, I am one…. partially).
Like quite a few others here, I’m hoping for a second part ;).

I really hope for an English version. The translation is awful, especially with all these stupid remarks…
Is there any chance?
December 7th, 2009 at 7:56 pm
Hey there,
I came across your book yesterday and upon reading it I couldn’t help but think: ‘yay, there’s finally someone who writes down all the things I laugh about every day!’ I’m half-american and half-german, so I guess I just totally mix up two cultures and ways of thinking in my head, haha.
So anyways, congratulations on publishing this wonderful book!

John,
I enjoyed the American perspective on us Germans and I enjoyed the perspective of an American with Germany exposure on his fellow Americans. Wonderful book! Only your translator did a terrible job with her foot notes - please make sure they will be removed for the next editions!
Congrats to Bettina and you.
Arne.

I bought your book! Love me! Btw, does it sell nicely?

Hi.
I really enjoyed reading this book.
:)
