Ok, not the best translation, but that’s what you get for free work. And yes, it sounds just as stupid in the original German. This is exactly why we make fun of Germany for their love of Hasselhoff. There are three good words that mean roughly “dude” in German, but in two different contexts. Number 1 & 2, as a reference to some guy, you say Typ or Kerl, but as a greeting these don’t work as dude might, instead you need the word Alter for this case.
